Back in April this year, our Club was informed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, that a building inspection report, had deemed the lifeguard station in need of urgent repairs and was therefore in too dangerous a condition to be used. The station was closed with immediate effect.
Following a number of meetings with council representatives, we were initially promised that we would be supplied with two containers to keep our equipment in, but to date, that has not materialised. How ionic, that this should happen in the year of our diamond anniversary.
It is very difficult, demoralising and depressing, under current circumstances to see a future for our unique Club, formed some 60 years ago in the land-locked Rhondda Valleys, 20 miles away from Barry. We have had our base at Cold Knap for 55 years and in that time have saved 129 lives there. 129 lives, can there be a more fitting tribute to these volunteers?
On Sunday 14th August 2022, we will be celebrating our 60th birthday at the Knap. We invite past members to visit us, outside the Lifeguard Station, anytime between 13:00 and 16:00, for perhaps a chat and a little light refreshment on us.
